Looking Back on a Successful Summer School

25 July 2025

From August 22–24, 2025, the KEMAI community took over Reisensburg Castle for three inspiring days of science, learning, and connection. Doctoral researchers, associated doctoral researchers, and PIs came together for a packed program of talks, workshops, and team-building.

Highlights included invited lectures from renowned experts:

  • Renate Schmidt (University of Manchester): Just the Right Amount: SNOMED CT Content Extraction
  • Lena Kästner (University of Bayreuth): Responsible AI – What Does It Take?
  • Judith Hermann (University Hospital Tübingen): AI in Radiology
  • Veronika Cheplygina (ITU Copenhagen): Curious Findings about Medical Image Datasets
  • Simone Schaub-Meyer (TU Darmstadt): Computing and Evaluating Visual Explanations

The program was complemented by a lecture from KEMAI Module II — Introduction to Medical Imaging: Technology and Clinical Applications — covering the physical and technical basics and clinical applications of X-ray, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound (US).

In addition, organizational meetings and team-building sessions fostered collaboration and networking among participants.

Poster Presentations

Doctoral researchers also presented their work in a poster session. Congratulations go to Alexander Lodemann (Institute for Artificial Intelligence), winner of the Best Poster Award, as well as to Michael Glöckler (Media Informatics) and Daniel Wolf (Associate Doctoral Student, Media Informatics) for their excellent contributions.
